Scholarships

The privilege of Quality Christian Education is very much valuable and indeed a priceless gift to be endowed upon. The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos seizes this opportunity to provide the gift of education to deserving youth of the province of Negros Occidental and the neighboring province.

Long before UNO-R’s existence as a University where it was then known as Occidental Negros Institute (ONI) in 1946, then University of Negros Occidental (UNO) in 1957, the educational aide program has existed until the Recollect Fathers took over in 1962. The management of the various scholarship programs were given to the different offices. Because of the scattered situation of the educational aide programs of the University and the desire of the University to produce well-rounded graduates(i.e. intellectually, spiritually, and physically prepared), the Scholarships Office came into existence in January 10, 1986.

The creation of the Office of the Director of Scholarships has for its main objective to centralize all the scholarship programs of the University and to act as companion to the scholars and grantees in their continuous search for truth and wisdom. This office is a manifestation of the Augustinian Recollect Mission to serve and assist the weak and the poor.

The first Director of Scholarships was Fr. Delfin A. Castillo, OAR, who was then the Vice President of Welfare and the University Treasurer. Miss Nilda M. Jamili, was then the Secretary of the Office, was appointed Assistant Director of Scholarships.

The Faculty Development Program, which was under the President’s Office, was formally added to the functions of the Director of Scholarships Office. Miss Nilda M. Jamili was appointed as Director of Scholarships and Faculty Development Program in the school year 1987-88 up to school year 2006-07. Aides from the Faculty Development Program and linkages to outside funding agencies were established.

With the advent of the SEAP By-Laws of Administration of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno, school year 2002-2003, the Office of the Director of Scholarships and Faculty Development Program was transferred under the Office of the President. Fr. Bernard C. Amparado, OAR was then the President, followed by Rev. Fr. Demetrio S. Peñascoza, OAR, SY 2003-04 up to the present.
