63 student leaders of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos attended the Leadership Training Seminar (LTS) initiated by the Campus Organizations Federation (COF) at the University Student Center and President’s Hall of the same school held last January 14, 2012. The student leaders listened to talks echoed by the UNO-R student delegates to the Recoletos Educational Apostolate in the Philippines’ (REAP) 1st Recoletos International Educational Congress (RIEC) held at the University of San Jose – Recoletos, Cebu City, Cebu last November 26-28, 2011. The speakers during the LTS were Rodney Torrefranca, President of the Recoletos Educational Assistance for Deserving Students (READS), Jude Xerxes Herbolario, Governor of the Arts and Sciences Student Council (ASSC) and Chairman of the League of Governors (LoG), Mary Jane Gubaton, COF Secretary, and Bobb Michael Bokingo, Vice President of the UNO-R Supreme Student Government (UNORSSG), in the activity hosted and spearheaded by COF President Vonn Carlo Marcelino and COF Vice President Phoebe Mae Perez.
The topics of the RIEC discussed to the student leaders included The Issues Confronting Philippine Education, Challenges to Catholic Education in the Philippines, Challenges to Religious Assigned in Schools, The Beginnings of the Recoletos Educational Apostolate in the Philippines, The Concept of Education in the Writings of St. Augustine, the Vision and Challenges of the Recoletos Educational Apostolate, and the History of the Recoletos Educational Apostolate.
