UNO-R DIWA FINALISTS CROWNED AS CHAMPIONS

Equipped with innovative minds, the UNO-R IS (7-10) Diwa finalists brought home the championship title of the first Diwa Innovation Lab Ultimate Maker Challenge: Genyo DIY Robotics Category held at the SM Mall of Asia, SMX Convention Center, Manila, February 1 2020, during the Smart Kids Asia Philippines Convention. Caryl Joyce Andarza, Kristine Laverne Gapiz, Jeniña Claire Yulo, and Xavier Romeo Emnace from Grade 10-St. Possidius, together with their coach Joel Nedamo, were the minds behind their project called “Nature-friendly collector of trash in the Environment for both Water and Terrain or land” or NEWT. “I am very happy that our innovation brings our department’s pride and award, showing that the students at early age can innovate such environment-friendly robot,” Laverne said. Out of 100 schools that participated, only three schools were selected to present their projects. Among these are the FAITH Catholic School and Pagadian Golden School, who won 1st and 2nd runner-up respectively. The contest aims to recognize the talent and skill of each participating team in making a prototype robot with the theme: “Green Tomorrow.” Moreover, it aims to encourage Filipino students to think of more innovative ways to solve the problems faced by their local government.
