In line with the Papal Visit of our Holy Father Pope Francis. As a first-step to the Pope’s call to reach out the marginalized sector of society, having been inspired by the theme of the Papal Visit- Mercy and Compassion, the Religious Education Department held an activity in line with the Apostolic Visit of his Holiness Pope Francis to the Philippines .With the theme “Mercy and Compassion “ 14th day of January 2015 4:30 PM, at the University Lobby. Rev. Fr. Emeterio Buñao, OAR, University President gave his warm welcome to the UNO-R community. Rev. Fr. Jorge Peligro, OAR, Vice President for Academics, gave inspiring tips on how to become a true Disciple of God: The True Discipleship of God; is to commit his self to the charity- The endless poverty, And on how to strengthen our SOUL: S-olidarity; O-bedience; U-niversal; L-oyalty. The activity is primarily intended for the Reed students. However, a university- wide o “Post a message to pope Francis” was organized and “a ten in a Bottle” donation drive for Mercy and compassion project with the Holy Infant Nursery”. After the activity, participants proceeded to the 35- meter wall mural on the perimeter fence of the University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos at the Lizares Extension Street for the Blessing of the Mural painting “Pope Francis, Pope of the People”, a tribute to Pope Francis by DIHON artists and UNO-R students. The blessing of the Mural painting was officiated by Rev. Fr. Jeorge Peligro, OAR. The Mural speaks of visual signature image of Pope Francis at the center, the pope as pedicab driver, as peacemaker between the rebels and the military, as a sacada worker, doing selfies with the youth, and smiling with young people. The participating artists were Yanson, Jolen Resuma, Jam Bayoneta, Karlo Burdeos, Larry Guillema, Stephen Basoy, Rodel Rojo, Larry Occeña, Zardo Saballa, Bro.
