A WALK FOR HEALING

For the past six years, the community of the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos holds the Walk for Healing on the feast of St. Ezekiel Moreno. It started in 2008, Rev. Fr. Antonio Limchaypo, OAR and Rev. Fr. Raul Buhay, OAR gathered some lay administrators of UNO-R to come up with meaningful activities for the feast of St. Ezekiel Moreno. The idea of holding a “walk for healing” came about as a meaningful and penitential activity to honor the Saint.

August 19, the tradition continued with the leadership of UNO-R Vice President for Religious Affairs, Rev. Fr. Cornelio Moral, OAR, more than four thousand UNO-Rians joined the walk for healing which commenced at 6 am from the Capitol Lagoon to UNO-R. The main intention is for the cancer patients. The participants were also asked to pray for peace and for perseverance and strength of OAR missionaries in EBOLA stricken countries.

Rev. Fr. Jorge Peligro, OAR, UNO-R Vice President – Academics, was the Main celebrant/Homilist during the Mass with anointing at the University Gym after the walk. In his homily, he shared three points: First, That God is above everything; second, we have to have a good life and lastly, Bloom wherever God had planted you. Taking the cue from the life of St. Ezekiel, he gave meaning to each letter of BLOOM which are: B- belonging; L – level-up; O – on line; O – off line; and M-maturity.

After the mass, the Recollect Priests with the Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist anointed the faithful and had the veneration of the relic of the saint.
