UNO-R inks MOU with Kwazulu-Natal University

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R), Bacolod City, represented by University President Fr. Demetrio S. Peñascoza, OAR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kwazulu-Natal University, South Africa, represented by Professor Peter Zacharias, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Sciences on October 30, 2007 at the President’s Office Conference Room.

 

In the memorandum of understanding, UNO-R and Kwazulu-Natal University shall promote areas of mutual interest in professional development programs and academic courses and shall develop their relationship through a range of mutually beneficial and appropriate educational services.  Moreover, they shall cooperate in identifying and implementing educational activities allowing for delivery in either or both countries.  This MOU is effective upon signing on October 30, 2007 until December 31, 2008.

    

 

According to Fr. Peñascoza, “This partnership is very beneficial for the University.  This could mean better chances for Engineering graduates to go to Africa.”  Prof. Zacharias welcomed this partnership while at the same time stressed on the very strong research program of his University.  With 300 units of annual publications, Kwazulu-Natal is the leading research producer in South Africa.  He reiterated the interest to make UNO-R a partner of future endeavors. 

 

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the presence of Vice President for Administration, Fr. Sixto Bitangjol, OAR, Vice President for External Affairs, Fr. Antonio Limchaypo, OAR, and college deans,  Atty. John Paolo Villasor, Engr. Christopher Taclobos, Dr. Mary Jane Uy, Dr. Elvi Lucila Bajador, Dr. John Clifford Salugsugan, Mr. Carlito Magbanua, and Mr. Elmer Haro.
