U-WEEKS SEPTENARY MASS: A Reflection on Students’ Prayer Lives

The Septenary mass today with the theme “Apostolic zeal and spirit of prayer,” was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Arnold Deletina,OAR served as an opening activity of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos’s University Week, September 6, 2010.

In Fr. Deletina’s homily, he asked the congregation, “the need for us to pray” urging the congregants to probe and reflect the importance of prayer in one’s life.

According to the cleric, a lot of people nowadays lost their way because they lack zeal with their prayer lives.

Father Deletina said that a lot of us now only pray for supplication of needs and wants.  He countered that this is not the way people should pray.   “Prayer is more than asking, prayer is a relationship (with God)” he added.

“If you lost a sense of direction, Pray, if what you are doing is not a product of your relationship with God or a product of prayer, kapuyon ka (you will be exhausted.)” the good priest added.

Before he ended his homily, Fr. Deletina suggested that “people should give time to pray because even Jesus (himself) took time to pray.”

The Septenary Mass will happen every morning at 8:00 am at the University Oratory the entire University Week celebration.
