University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams will face Holy Trinity College Wildcats of General Santos City today as the Visayas-Mindanao Qualifying of this year’s Philippine Collegiate Championship League (PCCL) kicks off at Cebu Coliseum. The Rams, which Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) as Champion in 2013, defeated Western Leyte College, 75-68 in the Visayas finals in Dumaguete to advance. UNO-R earned the right to represent Nopsscea after the PCCL Board waived its current rules to allow Nopsscea team to join the tournament. Prior to the PCCL decision, Nopsscea Committee on Sports Chair Fr. Louie Gabinete, OAR, wrote the PCCL to allow UNO-R to represent the league because the local tournament is still ongoing and the eventual winners for 2014 could not be determined yet. The winner between UNO-R and HTC will face Cesafi’s No. 4 University of San Jose-Recoletos tomorrow with the winner taking on Cebu’s No. 3 University Lancers on Thursday.
