Recoletos Paddlers win 13th straight title

The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos retained its championships in the men and women’s competitions of the NOPSSCEA collegiate table tennis tournament held at the social hall of St. Scholastica’s Academy in Bacolod City recently.

The UNO-R male paddlers did not lose a single game out of the 27 played to bring home its 13th straight crown after posting 3-0 victories over VMA Global College, University of St. La Salle, Riverside Colege and La Consolacion College Main.

Edward Cachumbo, Timothy Joseph Tanque, Ferdinand Lagdamat, Siegfred Tupas and Christian Dale Pescadilla represented the triumphant Recoletos men’s squad, while RC and USLS finished first and second runners-up, respectively.

UNO-R assistant coach Mark Francis Jimenez yesterday actually said that the men’s team actually has not lost a single ecounter in the NOPSSCEA Sports Meet since 1994. Both the men and women’s squads are mentored by George Jimenez.

The lady paddlers of UNO-R were also as dominant as their male counterparts by dropping only two games out of 27 played after scoring 3-0 victories against LCC-Mian, RC and 11th Natinal University Games silver medalist USLS.

Composing the Recoletos women’s squad are Shairen Pie Lagunday, Princess Gay Rivera, April May Katada, Ma. Charmis Pernito and Ma. Ctaherine Garcia.

It was the seventh championship for the UNO-R lady players in eight years, while the La Sallian and Riverside paddlers came in first and second runners-up, respectively.

The sweep the collegiate table tennis hostilities increased UNO-R’s championship haul to four in woodpushers earlier seized the titles in men and women’s chess competitions.
