Starlight, the official publication of the UNO-Recoletos High School Department, ranked third as top performing school in individual writing contest in Panulaton 2012, in Iloilo City, last July 28-29.
Starlight student writers competed among over 100 students writers from Panay and Negros and brought home the following awards: Anne Therese Torres, 1st place – Editorial Writing –English; Ana Raphaela Villaruz, 3rd place News-Writing – Filipino; Harll Joshua Edjan, 3rd place Sports Writing –English; Hervey Angelo Avenido, 5th place Sports Writing –English and Editorial Cartooning –English; Darlene Centina, 2nd place News Writing – English, Honorable Mention in Editorial Writing –English, and Sports Writing – English; Kristy Ruth Peralta, Honorable Mention in Editorial Writing –English; Patricia Joy Lagansoa, 2nd place Photojournalism – English and Honorable Mention in News Writing –English. The student writers were trained by Mrs. Maria Alon – Song. Panulaton 2012 was organized by Silak, the award –wining publication of the College of Education of West Visayas State University to expose student writers to the “cutting edge” techniques and skills in writing to win journalism competitions.
