Basic Education Computer Laboratories and the Student Lounge were inaugurated and blessed at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos last October 12,2011. The laboratories are located at the ground floor of the Fray Luis de Leon library while the old “Teacher’s College shedhouse” houses the students’ Lounge.
The new cyber Laboratories will be the venue of the Genyo. Genyo is an online program for their curricular subjects. UNO-R is the first school to integrate these new technologies in its Basic Education program. The laboratories provide a 1:1 ratio of computer use.
The Student Lounge is a project of three Supreme Student Governments. The building was constructed by the administration of Joselle Geopano while the air conditioning is a joint project of the administrations of Jeffersion Nagtalon and Junell Lupo. It is a venue where students could relax and study and even conduct research. The administration will make the venue Wi-fi ready by the next semester.
Rev. Fr. Cornelio Moral,OAR, Vice President for Religious Affairs officiated the blessing while Rev. Fr. Dionisio Cachero, OAR, University President gave the rationale of the project. Mrs. Sunya Phi Sumalde, MAEd, Grade School Principal and Mrs. Sol Abellar, MAEd, High School Principal gave their responses to the administration while Junell Lupo gave the closing address.
Fr. Cachero in his message said that these laboratories are the response of UNO-R to the challenges of the times. These will facilitate meaningful learning experiences. The student Lounge will provide tertiary students better academic ambiance.
The event was attended by Religious and Lay administrators, faculty of Basic Education Department, Student Government officers and DEPEd Education Supervisor in Math, Mrs. Purita Octaviano.
