CE Department’s Bridge Building Competition

The Civil Engineering Department of UNO-R held its Annual Civil Engineering Bridge Building Competition at the Engineering Lobby. Testing and loading of the bridge in the afternoon was done at the Main Lobby of the university. The participants of the competition were the 4th and 5th year Civil Engineering students of UNO-R, divided into 18 groups with 4-8 members per group. The Civil Engineering faculty members served as judges in the said competition. Engr. Owen Martir, Department Head of Civil Engineering, said that the purpose of the said competition is to showcase the students’ knowledge and apply it in bridge designing. Bridge #13, built by the group of Jose Marie Pilar (5th year Computer Engineering students) was declared champion for the Annual CE Bridge Building after constructing the strongest bridge among the 18 bridges. The winning group received P700 while the 1st and 2nd runners-up received P500 and P200 respectively. Bridge No. 12 was awarded as the Glenn Nemenzo award or the Best in Aesthetic Award and received P200. According to Jeanher Mae Mahinay, one of the contestants, they were happy with the results and it was all because of the efforts of Pilar who led their group.
