UNO-R’s partnership with SMART Communications, Inc. continued to grow as the SMART Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) conducted a seminar on Wireline and Wireless Technology at the Recoletos AutoCad Training (ReACT) room last February 25. The seminar was carried out at the urgent request of fifth year BSECE students who are currently working on their research design. This design is an individual requirement for all graduating BSECE students and involves the setting up of a microwave and satellite link between two terminal stations.
Resource speaker was Engr. Ruel Empleo, network engineer from SMART Transmission and Planning Engineering Department situated in Manila. With him was Engr. Donnie Sedomio, SWEEP coordinator in Negros Occidental who is also a subscriber network coordinator in Bacolod City.
Engr. Empleo gave the students a firm grasp of the actual operations involved in setting up a communications link. Queries regarding the installation of microwave radio and optical fiber were carefully answered. Important facts vital to the project design were also tackled during the talk. Students also got an overview of new technologies like HSPA, WiMAX, and others.
