The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Debate Team scores their first victory as they emerge as the Best Debating Team during the Debate sa Bombo: Intercollegiate Debate Competition debate round last December 11, 2013, which was broadcasted live during the “Bombohanay Bigtime” Program. The University’s debate team defended the Negative Side of the proposition: “Let it be resolved that abortion be legalized in the Philippines” versus the Affirmative Side from Carlos Hilado Memorial State College- Fortune Towne Campus. The Recoletos Debate Team is under the leadership of Team Captain Raxel Ann Gonzales, BSED English and Miss CoEd 2013; with team members Nichol Malata and Gail Fernandez, both from the College of Criminal Justice Education. The two awards for the Best Speaker and the Best Debater, were both garnered by Team Captain Raxel Ann Gonzales, who was the Necessity Speaker and Rebuttalist Speaker during the said debate round. The Recoletos Debate Team will be competing with different colleges and universities in their upcoming matches, as they journey for the Debate Championship.
