Teacher Education Council (TEC) in partnership with the Colleges of Education from University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos (UNO-R) and La Consolacion College- Bacolod (LCC- B) sponsored the “TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS’ CONGRESS” held at Negros Occidental Multi- Purpose Activity Center (NOMPAC) last November 22, 2010.
Education students from all over the province, mostly third and fourth year students, attended the seminar on the trends and issues regarding Philippine educational system. Topics include “The National Competency- Based Teachers Standards (NCBTS), “The Code of Ethics of Professional Teachers”, “The NCBTS- Based Table of Specifications”, “The Mother Tongue Based Multi- Lingual Education, “The K+12 Program”, “The Experiential Learning Courses (ELC) Assessment”, and “The New Guidelines in Hiring Teacher I Positions.” The speakers were Dr. Ofelia T. Posecion, Dean of the College of Education, UNO-R and, at the same time, Vice President of PAFTE Region VI; Dr Avelina Llagas, Consultant of Teacher Induction Program (TEC- DepEd); Dr. Brenda Corpuz, Former Chairperson, Board of Professional Teachers; Dr. Paraluman Giron, Regional Director, DepEd Region IV; Dr. Purita Bilbao, TEC Member for the Visayas; Dr. Beatriz Torno, Director, TEC and Asst. Regional Director of Region III and; Dr Mildred Garay, Regional Director, DepEd Region VI, respectively.
Education students of UNO-R, LCC- B, USLS, CHMSC- Talisay, Bacolod City College, Bago City College, West Negros University, Kabankalan Catholic University, Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod, Silay Institute, Cedar College, Binalbagan City College, West Visayas State University- Himamaylan Extension and Mt. Carmel College were among the schools that attended the said congress.
