In preparation for the opening of the Academic Year 2010-2011, faculty members from the Basic Education Department and College underwent a two-day Seminar-Workshop on “Enhancing Student Engagement in Learning through Innovative Teaching and Assessment Techniques” last June 11-12, 2010 at the President’s Hall.
On day 1, the Resource Speaker, Dr. Ma. Luz P. Villarante, exposed the participants to the different Assessment Techniques. Dr. Villarante is a part-time professor at De La Salle University in Manila and is a full-time author of books in the Pre-Elementary and Elementary. She is also the resource speaker and trainer for seminars sponsored by REX Publishing House, Inc. She was previously connected with La Consolacion College-Manila as Assistant Director of the Foreign Language Center and a professor for Speech at San Sebastian College-Recoletos in Manila.
“The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Centered Landscape of Teaching” was the focus of the seminar-workshop conducted by Dr. Joselito Flores on the second day. The said seminar included three modules: “Teaching from Within, Learning in Community: The Conversation of Colleagues via Ball of Teaching Selves”; “The Balance of Power”; and “How the Balance of Power Changes”. Dr. Flores is an official Competent Toastmaster (CTM) and a member of the Toastmasters’ International Inc. where he served as past Vice President for Public Relations, Macajalar Club, District 75, Philippines. He is an innovative language professor and an Image Enhancement Training Consultant. Known for his excellent communication skills in English, Filipino, Cebuano, Conversational Chinese, Thai, and Italian languages, he has been one of the most sought-after consultants and pedagogy directors of leading educational institutions, corporations, and publishing houses in the country.
The seminar-workshop was initiated by the Faculty Development Committee where Fr. Joel Alve, OAR, VP-Academics, is the Coordinator, and Dr. John Clifford Salugsugan, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, is the In-Service Facilitator. Degree Programs facilitators are the different deans and principals.
