The Mass Communication Department of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is set to realize its “Handum sang Maskom” during the celebration of MassComm Day on February 20, 2009 at the President’s Hall.
The whole day affair begins with a program where CAS Assistant Dean, Mrs. Marian Eusoya, will give the Opening Remarks. Mr. Rufus Javier, Jr., Head of the English and Mass Communication Department, will do the acknowledgment and recognition of contestants, principals, coaches, and campus paper advisers. Meanwhile, University President, Fr. Sixto M. Bitangjol, OAR, will deliver the Welcome Address.
Lecture series will follow. The first topic is on the ABC’s of News Writing where the resource speaker is Ms. Yasmin Pascual-Dormido, Chief News Neporter of ABS-CBN, Bacolod City. News writing contest follows this talk. On the other hand, Ms. Chona Villaluna-Gosiaoco is the resource speaker for the second topic, “Radio: Its Vital role in Social Transformation”. Ms. Gosiaoco is the anchorwoman of Tatak Negrense over DYRL, BacolodCity. At break time, the department will hold the “Hosting a Radio Program Competition”. In the afternoon, Ms. Camille Buenaventura, Executive Director of San Miguel Foundation in Manila, will talk about “Opportunities and Challenges in Communicating Corporate Social Responsibility”. Open forum follows, then the awarding of winners for the newswriting contest and hosting a radio program competition. The MassComm Day will be highlighted by “A Night to Remember”, a variety show, at the UNO-R Auditorium. Alumni of the department are expected to attend this evening affair.
