UNO-R Breaks Ground for New Mini Olympic Pool

UNO-Rians gathered today, February 8, 2023, at the UNO-R Sports Office to break ground for the development of a new mini-Olympic-sized swimming pool within the University.

The pool, which will be built beside the UNO-R Sports Office, is a 15×25 meter structure that slopes from 4 to 6 feet deep. The new amenity has shower rooms, lockers, and bleachers enclosed within a 25×40-meter walled perimeter inside the UNO-R School of Agriculture grounds.

Together we are building a dream: KYG Pools, a sister company of ALP Construction Supply & Services, conducted a feasibility study in 2016 under the university’s previous administration. Engr. Alvin L. Politico, a UNO-R alumnus, offered his services to the university, stating that he has prayed for the project’s success which was troubled by delays brought on by the pandemic. Engr. Politico, in his message, remembered a time when his fellow alumni struggled with commuting to far-flung water sports venues, and how he had dreamed that UNO-R would someday provide future UNO-Rians their own swimming pool.

“We are committed to excellence… and provide present and future UNO-Rians with the best experience with their time here in UNO-R.” University President Rev. Fr. Joel A. Alve, OAR said in his welcoming speech before blessing the venue.

Mr. Ernil T. Orbecido, Supervisor of the UNO-R Property Administrator’s Office, prepared a time capsule that contains a list of the current Lay and Religious administration and program offerings, copied documents pertaining to the project’s plans and studies, and a copy of today’s national periodical. The ceremony concluded with the laying of the capsule.

Construction will start on the first week of March and is expected to be completed before the next Academic Year 2023-2024.
