UNO-R Celebrates the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary

A mass was held on March 19, 2021, at the UNO-R Oratory to celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Today, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos observes the solemnity of Saint Joseph , Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Streamed live from the Oratory of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, a Concelebrated Mass was held at 8:30 am to mark today’s feast, which was celebrated by Fray Cristituto A. Palomar, OAR (VP for Religious Affairs), and co-celebrated by Fray Jose Alden B. Alipin, OAR (VP for Academics); Fray Amadeo C. Lucero, OAR (VP for Student Welfare); Fray Don Besana, OAR (University President); and Fray Persiuz Joseph Decena, OAR (Director of Basic Education)

Fr. Palomar, in his homily, encourages us “to celebrate the mystery of the love of God as the father of us all – the ultimate spouse of each one’s soul and to let St. Joseph be an example of our journey to God, the divine son who carried out his vocation with complete fidelity.”

With the apostolic letter Patris Corde, Pope Francis recalls the 150th anniversary of the declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To mark the occasion, the Holy Father has proclaimed a Year of St. Joseph from December 8, 2020, to December 8, 2021.

Mr. Lino Sumbillo of the UNO-R SDPC and Mrs. Winnie Sumbillo of the UNO-R Clinic shared their reflections on the occasion as husband and wife proclaiming God as at the center of their faith and love for each other.

After the Eucharistic Celebration, the UNO-R community gathered on the first floor of the Fray Luis de Leon Library for the Blessing of the ReEd Director’s Office and ReEd Faculty Room. Fray Romeo Ben Potencio, Jr., OAR is the newly appointed Director of Religious Education.
