SCHOOL OF LAW DEAN ATTENDS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Dean John Poalo. Villasor of the School of Law attended the International Conference on “The South China Sea Award: The Legal Dimension” from January 5th to January 6th, 2017 as part of the Philippine contingent. The Conference was organized by the Centre for International Law of the National University of Singapore and held at The Regent, Singapore. The Conference brought together the world’s leading experts to discuss the legal reasoning and findings in the Arbitral Award on issues such as jurisdiction, historic rights, status and entitlement of features, artificial islands and installations, the protection of the marine environment, procedure and implications of the Award for UNCLOS dispute settlement. The Conference was chaired by Professor S Jayakumar (Chairman, CIL International Advisory Panel, and former Deputy Prime Minister, Republic of Singapore), Ambassador Tommy Koh (Chairman, CIL Governing Board, and President, Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea from 1980 to 1982), Professor Lucy Reed (Director, CIL) and Professor Robert Beckman (Head, Oceans Law and Policy Programme of the Centre for International Law). The Conference was limited to invited guests and held under the Chatham House Rules
