55TH GENERAL CHAPTER RE-ELECTS FR. PRIOR GENERAL

40 Recollects gathered in General Chapter in Rome from October 2, have chosen on the morning of Tuesday, October 25, prior to its general for the next six years. Rev. Fr. Miguel Miró Miró, OAR was re-elected as Prior General of the Order of Augustinian Recollects. Fr. Miguel Miró was born in Vinebre (Tarragona, Spain). He joined the Order of Augustinian Recollects in 1972, after his studies at the University of Barcelona’s Career Technical Architecture. After completing his philosophical studies and his novitiate at Monteagudo (Navarra), he took up his theological studies in Marcilla (Navarra). In 1995 he was sent to Rome where he obtained a degree in spiritual theology from the Gregorian University. In 1997, the Provincial Chapter held in Marcilla, elected him as Prior Provincial of the OAR Province of San Nicolas de Tolentino, a position he held for six years, being re – elected in the 2000 Provincial Chapter. In his tenure as prior provincial, he proposed two objectives: promotion-formation of vocations and the intensification of the spiritual life. In 2003, he was elected as Vicar General and 1st Councilor. He also led the General Secretariat of Spirituality and was appointed Prior of the Mother House in Rome. He was previously assigned in the Generalate as in-charge of Publications. Assumed responsibility for the publication of the news magazine Notitiæ OAR . He was also in-charge of media relations of the Order. He maximized the use of technology by creating an institutional website for the whole Order. In the 54th General Chapter , the Chapter elected him President of the Chapter, an indication of the confidence over him by the Capitulars. Upon his election as Prior General during the 54th General Chapter, Fr. Miguel Miro has been pushing for the revitalization and restructuring of the Order. For the next 6 years, Rev. Fr. Miguel Miro, OAR will lead the Order of Augustinian Recollects all over the world. The Order of Augustinian Recollects with the 1045 religious, divided into 19 bishops, 847 priests, 6 permanent deacons, 54 religious brothers and 120 religious and professed under formation. They are distributed in four OAR religious provinces and live in 181 communities located in Europe (Spain, Italy, UK), America (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela), Asia (China, the Philippines and Taiwan) and Africa (Sierra Leone).
