UNO-R VISITS CHINA

The last week of May 2016 is a great week for UNO-R VP for Academics and three (3) Engineering Professors for they are given the privilege to conduct checking/inspection of Tube Mills and Boiler part Mills in China. Fr. Albert Pellazar, OAR, Dean Christopher Taclobos, Engr. Rolando Escalona and Engr. Glenn Amantillo composed the team of UNO-R that visited China on May 21 – 26. The University being recognized by the sponsoring company as the forefront of supplying engineers to most sugar mills in Negros Island, could disseminate through its programs the sourcing capability of C Melchers GMBH & Co. The team visited the Composite Products Manufacturing in Nanjing Jinjiuding Composite Material Co., LTD, Pressure Vessel fabrication of Zig, in Zhangjiagang and Mill facility in Suzhou Baoxin Seamless Steel Tube Co., LTD. Side trips were successfully conducted in Bamboo farm in Yuan Linchang, Anhui, Walled City of Pingyao, Confucius Temple, Qinhuai River, and Shanghai Museum. The trip is sponsored by C Melchers GMBH & Co, a trading and engineering firm in Bremen, Germany supplying materials for sugar mills, power plants and other manufacturing industries in the Philippines. The Materials Division of the Philippine branch of the said company is managed by Engr. Marvin Velasco, UNO-R BSME alumnus batch 1988. For Engr. Glenn Amantillo, he is thanking God for Engr. Marvin and his counterpart based in Shanghai Mr. Rex Ding, who gave the team the opportunity to experience China. He saw the hospitality of rural China even there was a handicap of communication. The rural Chinese was observed to be eager and glad to serve the UNO-R team. In the engineering side, the Chinese are passionate in their conduct of their business. The quality of the product is determined to be achieved in order for them to sell their product. The creativity of making new things is evident for the purpose of doing business. The final day of the tour is capped with a simple ceremony in C Melchers, Shanghai Branch building in which a certificate of appreciation from the University President Fr. Eduardo S. Celiz, OAR was presented to Mr. Peter Decu, chief representative of C Melchers in Shanghai. Fr. Pellazar personally accredited C Melchers for the opportunity to see the actual process in Steel Mills factory. He acknowledged that a strong partnership between a university and an industry would result in producing good quality engineers that could respond to the demands of global market.
