University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos opened the Christmas Village last December 3, 2015 at Paseo Rekoleto and the Founders’ Park at exactly 6:00 PM. The theme of the Christmas village is “Christmas around the world, the Rekoleto way.” The program started with an invocation followed by the National Anthem and the singing of “Kami Bacolodnon” – Bacolod City Theme Song. Mr. Dexter Paul Dioso, Director of Student Affairs gave the opening remarks while the Father President gave a message emphasizing the essence of advent and its importance to the Catholic faith. An audio visual presentation was played as a tribute to the late Rev. Fr. Cornelio Moral, OAR. The “switch-on” ceremony of the Christmas villages followed with the Father President; Mr. Mark Edwin Jereza, UNORSSGO President; and Engr. Noli Ortiz, UNOFELA President. The NOPSCCEA 2015 Hiphop Champion entertained the audience and the launching ended with a closing remark by Dr. Carlos Eduardo I. Legaspi, Jr., the University Director of External Affairs. The Christmas village 2015 is sponsored by the University Administration, UNORSSGO, B&GAA, UNOFELA, FEMAA- MPC and Davies paints. The Christmas village is an idea conceptualized by Fr. Loreto Dacanay, OAR. Judges are Dr. Carmenda Leonoras, Mr. Dexter Paul Dioso and Dr. Dennis Madrigal. The Parade of lights organized by Mrs. Joselina Basa and Mrs. Barbara Cordova gave a twist in this year’s opening of Christmas at UNO-R. (Lourd John Diaz)
