An Environmental Stewardship Manual for Schools authored by Bro. Jaazeal “Tagoy” Jakosalem, OAR and Kathryn D’Anjou was launched at the UNO-Recoletos President’s Hall last Dec. 1, 2011 at 2:30pm.
Bro. Jaazeal Jakosalem, OAR shared that the manual is in cooperation with the UNO-R-Energy Development Corporation (EDC) Urban-Greening Project, Recycling. Bro. Jakosalem said, the manual is all about RECYCLING. It has also suggestion for waste management and adheres to the program of government ongoing organic. He also shared about the Green Heart experience at UNO-R.
Rev. Fr. Regino Bangcaya, OAR, Prior Provincial of the OAR province of St. Ezekiel Moreno, in his message, affirmed the work of those present for the environment. Concern for the environment is the change of heart and mindset. There should be conversion-real conversion. While, Rev. Fr. Dionisio Cachero, OAR, UNO-R President reminded everyone that environmental protection is a duty and responsibility of everyone and pointed out that man’s sins of commission and mission are the main causes of environmental destruction. Fr. Cachero added that may this manual serve as a reminder to one and all that with one simple act that we do to save Mother Earth; collectively we are taking giant leaps to protect our home. Both Fr. Bangcaya and Fr. Cachero commended the efforts of Bro. Tagoy and Kathryn.
A talk was also given by Rodne Galicha, Philippine District Manager of The Climate Project on witnessing of the climate change in the world. He challenged everyone to speak up, join Climate Reality Project and never give-up. He also gave 8 R’s on how to protect the environment: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, Repair, Refuse, Rethink, Rainforest and Reconnect. Mrs. Mely S. Flores, University Community Development Office (UCDO) Supervisor, in her closing remarks shared that new projects of UCDO are Urban-Greening and Computer Literacy Program. The program emcee was Ms. Gladys Terania.
