University President, Fr. Sixto M. Bitangjol, OAR, attended the 1st Regional Conference of the University and College Presidents all over Western Visayas with new CHED Chairman Emmanuel Y. Angeles last October 4 held at the Language Center of the Western Visayas State University, Iloilo City.
At the Conference, Chairman Angeles emphasized the need for schools to produce world-class human resource in response to this age of globalization and rapid advances in technology development. He also highlighted the major concerns of CHED such as inadequate preparedness of basic education graduates entering higher education, the need to upgrade the quality of graduates, job-skill mismatches, and the need to broaden access to higher education especially among the poor. After presenting the budget for Fiscal Year 2009, he announced the on-going programs and projects of CHED which include Student Financial Assistance Programs, Alternative Learning Systems (Ladderized Education Program; ETEEAP), Quality Assurance, Center of Excellence/Development Program, Faculty Development, Higher Education Research, and Management and Information Systems Development.
