UNORIANS AS PILGRIMS IN NYD 2019: Beloved, Gifted, and Empowered.

The Recollect Augustinian Youth of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (Oratory of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine) under the Diocese of Bacolod participated in this year’s National Youth Day 2019 last April 23-28, 2019 held at Cebu, Philippines. The said celebration with the theme, “I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word (Luke 1:38)”, hailed over 12,000 delegates coming from the different parishes in the country amplifying the core purpose of the youth this 2019 Year of the Youth. This special occasion has allowed the Church to extend the unrecognized role of the youth. It has become an avenue for a variety of activities and events that highlights the Church’s preferential love for the youth. There was Solemn Procession from Abellana to Basilica, Opening Mass at Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, Youth Testimonies, Via Lucis (Way of the Light), Service Revolution Catechesis Workshop to varied communities, Parish Night, Pilgrim Walks, Eucharistic Adoration with Divine Mercy Chaplet, and HUDYAKA (Grand Festival Night) which included Youth Jam (LiveLoud Praise and Worship) but beyond these activities the love and hospitality of the Cebuano Foster Families to the delegates gravitated the most impact as they see Jesus through these events. “The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, true love brings service, and the fruit of service is peace, “ Most Rev. Grabriele Giordano Caccia said as he shares in his homily at the last day of the event how to attain peace. The university had a total number of 1 OAR Priest, 2 delegation heads, and 25 student delegates respectively Fr. Jose Teodulfo Jadulco, OAR, Mr. Joey Jolito, Mr. Andrei John P. Ea, Pamela Joy Lagansoa, Izaiah Montano, Glorie Sorgon, Marian Escobar, Erika Fruylan, Aubrey Manalo, Carmel Therese Boncalon, Danielle Gale Singson, Faith Simora, Anna Poblacion, Kathryn Villaflor, Angelyn Pangcobela, Patricia Bautista, Bonna Mae Villarante, Beah Ganarias, Kristine Valerie Dela Cruz, Angelo Alit, Veronica Therese Avenido, Michaela Dela Rosa, Hannah Yusay, Rosheil Escobar, Pauline Monique Viendor, Erhon Bene, Nikki Elbanbuena and Krischan Gelasan. The pilgrims were distributed to corresponding foster families of certain parishes in Cebu. These parishes were strategically chosen and comprised a festival site (9 festival sites in all) which was named after a patron saint. The Recollect Augustinian Youth were assigned in San Narciso Parish (Consolacion, Cebu) under Maria Goretti Festival Site, and San Roque Parish (Liloan, Cebu) under Rose of Lima festival site.
