negros kolektib

The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos joined the Negros Kolektib. The organization is composed on of young people who are against the use of plastic since it is a hazard to our environment. Last November 23, 2018, Bishop Patricio Buzon, SDB, DD issued a Pastoral Letter on the war against the use of plastic. In the letter, the bishop suggested that we have to avoid the use of single-use plastics and styros; practice Bring Your Own Bag or Bayong (BYOB); avoid sachets; Practice waste segregation; and practice the 5R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse and Re-educate). In response to the directive of the Bishop, the Diocesan Social Action Center led by Rev. Fr. Chris Gonzales led the young people from the academe and civil society to act collectively and adopt measures that could put into reality the words of our dear bishop. Statements of support were read by different representatives of the academe. UNO-R was represented by UCDO Director Maribel Gonzales, RSW, Carlos Eduardo Legaspi, Jr. and students of the Social Work Department jointly read the statement of support. Ms. Gonzales signed the covenant for the protection of the environment.
