UNO-R HOLDS MEDIA CONFERENCE

The University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, Mass Communication Department, in cooperation with the Office of External Affairs held the 1st Media Conference tagged as “DABDAB Sa Pagbantala” with the theme: “Keeping the Flame of the Media Profession Ablaze” ,February 27 – March 1, 2018. Day 1 – February 27, 2018 (Tuesday), the registration started at 8:00AM at the University Main Lobby. Keynote Speaker for the affair was Ms. Marie June Pavillar –Castro, District Coordinator on Housing Concerns, Office of Congressman Albee Benitez, UNO-R Mass Communication cum laude (1989). The morning session ended with the signing of the commitment to Truth document by media and participants. The afternoon session was a talk show entitled “Hinun-anon” which featured seasoned media practitioners in the persons of news anchor of DYRL Ms. Teresa Ellera, the Business Affairs and Communication Officer of San Miguel Brewery INC., Ms. Antonietta Beboso- Lopez; the Former Station Manager of DYEZ Ms. Connie Po, CPA; former DYEZ Disc Jockey, Ms. Beth Gaston Puey ,popurlarly known as “Cristy Love”; at 3:30PM, another set of speakers for the talk show were reporter of Sunstar Bacolod; Ms. Carla Cañet; Head USLS Communication Department, Ms. Hannah Mariveles; STI West Negros Career Adviser and Media Relations Officer, Ms. Ritzy Robles Malooy; and Assistant IV to the Neg. Occ. Governor for Media Relations, Mr. Eric Loretizo. Mass Communication alumna, currently working at ABS-CBN TV4, Ms. Yasmin Pascual Dormido hosted the Talkshow. February 28, 2018 (Wednesday), a forum at 7:30AM at the President’s Hall opened the day. The Media Conference featured the following speakers: Journalist and Freelance Documentary Film Maker, Mr. Julius Mariveles, Reporter/Anchor of Bombo Radyo Bacolod, Ms. Jaz de Jesus- Madrigal, Public Relations Manager of SM City Bacolod, Ms. May Castro, and Station Manager of I-FM and Former KBP President of Negros Occidental, Mr. Serafin Plotria, Jr. Part 2 of the second day covered the Community Broadcasting and Photo Journalism Competitions sponsored by Project ROLEx (Recoletos Online Learning Extension: An E-learning for Agriculture Education). And Day 3 – March 1 (Thursday) was a cultural tour for Mass Communication Society and participants.
