SOCIAL WORK DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

The Social Work Society had their series of activities at the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, July 22, 2019. The day started with the Self- Awareness Seminar held at the Engineering AVR at 8:30 am. Dr. Richelle H. Verdeprado, RSW gave the welcome remarks. Hyacinth Salazar, Social Work Society President introduced the guest speaker in the person of Ms. Aura Mae Salanap, a BS in Psychology graduate of UNO-R Batch 2003 and presently working at the Campus Ministry Office as one of the staff. Ms. Salanap started her talk with an opening prayer to the Holy Spirit. She also emphasized that the objective of the activity is for the students to be aware of their dignity as persons. During the first session, Ms. Salanap highlighted that men and women are gifted with the dignity of being children of God. In the second session, she discussed about self-image and self-esteem wherein the students were tasked to answer a worksheet that would reflect their personality. The activity ended with a self-esteem creed and a short reflection shared by the students. The morning activity was capped by a short closing remark by Hyacinth G. Salazar, Social Work Society President. A Eucharistic Celebration was held for the success of the 2019 Licensure Examination for Social Workers UNO-R takers at the UNO-R Oratory at 10:30. The 5th Social Work General Assembly was held in the afternoon at the Little Theater. The activity opened with a prayer led by the newly founded Social Work Society Chorale, organized by Atty. Ma. Dolores Nalumen. Dr. Richelle Verdeprado, Department Chair, gave the inspirational message. Princess Mae Castañeda gave the intermission number afterward. Julio Labayen, RSW, and Aron Kim Gil, RSW, Social Work Alumni, also shared their experiences, struggles, and successes in their journey in the Social Work profession. Hyacinth Salazar, Social Work Society president, presented the calendar of activities for the school year 2019-2020, the Social Work resolutions, and the recently participated and spearheaded activities of the Social Work Department and Society. Prizes were given during the quiz bee. The Social Work fund-raising raffle was also held in which the proceeds will go to the beautification of the Social Work Hub in preparation for the PAASCU visit in August.
